Interview: We are right here with Donny B. Lord! You were born in the British Virgin Islands. How much time did you spend there?

Donny B. Lord: I left when I was really young so I wasn’t really raised there. But, I was raised with a mix of Caribbean, American and European culture because of my parents.

Interview: How did that Caribbean culture affect your background and what influence does it have on your music?

Donny B. Lord: I think it’s that rhythm; the island rhythm man. It’s in the music. From the time you’re a little baby, I’ve seen the littlest of Caribbean babies get up and start dancing or “wine it” as they say. I think it’s the rhythm and it’s outside of the box. That’s something about the islands; it’s very outside the box because it was colonized by so many different countries. There are a lot of different mixtures and cultures going on. That’s why my music has a little rhythm to it.

Interview: That’s amazing. You’re creating a new path right now musically.

Donny B. Lord: I’m excited about this. “Party on the Moon” is my debut single. I’m really excited about this song. I took a different direction with it than what I was doing before. Now I’m doing dance music. I’m happy with the way it turned out. My manager [David Peterson] and I felt like we should take a direction separate from the Jacksons. You can’t follow in those footsteps because they’re too huge. But you can take what you learned from it and that’s what we did. I took my knowledge and my experience with the Jackson family and now brought it into this.

This song is mixed by Skip Saylor and mastered by Bernie Grundman who also did Michael Jackson’s Thriller. I’m singing in a lower voice, which I love. We just did the music video directed by Yolande Geralds who’s worked with Trey Songz and other big time people. We have Howard Rosen doing promotion and we’re just really excited about it all.

Interview: That sounds like an electrifying process. When’s the release date for the video?

Donny B. Lord:  People can go to www.donnyblord.com so they can see the video and everything else exciting that’s going on. I want everyone to sign up on the email list.

Interview: No doubt, we encourage people to sign up on the mailing list. What’s next up for you?

Donny B. Lord: We’re really just launching the single. We have a couple of different things right now that we’re looking at. I don’t want to talk about them just yet because they’re premature but it’s going to be an exciting summer. We’re not gonna’ stop! Like Howard Rosen said to me, “we’re not gonna’ stop until this thing’s on the moon.” That’s how I’m spending my time’ is launching the single, and of course keeping up my chops.

Interview: That’s cool. I appreciate your time Donny. Do you have any last words before I let you go?

Donny B. Lord: I really want people to go to the website www.donnyblord.com and watch the “Party on the Moon” music video directed by Yolande Geralds. A special shout out goes to my manager David Peterson. God bless all of you out there! Spread the love, that’s what “Party on the Moon” is all about. It’s really about partying, having a good time with no rules – on the moon.

Who parties on the moon? Nobody, exactly! Accept for us, we make the rules and do what we want while being ourselves. That’s what “Party on the Moon” represents. That’s what inspired me to make that record. Coming from a multi-cultured background, everybody comes together and has a good time. We don’t have to be the same, we can be different and all get along.
